about Jeramey

Jeramey Anderson is a Democratic member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing District 110.  He was first elected to the chamber in a special election on November 5, 2013.  When Jeramey Anderson won his seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives in November 2013, he became the youngest member ever elected to the Mississippi Legislature and the youngest African American elected to a legislature in United States history.

Representative Anderson is a native of Moss Point, MS  He received his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Pearl River Community College and his Bachelors Degree in Homeland Security from Tulane University.​

At the age of 16, Jeramey founded a non-profit organization known as the Foundation for a Brighter America, which is dedicated to serving as a mentoring organization to young boys ages 11-18.  Now, he serves as the program's Executive Director.

Anderson has three goals that are the driving forces behind his ambitions and success in regards to our youth:  “Making a difference in the lives of kids”, “Empowering young males to reach their highest potential” and “Inspiring young people to believe in education in order to succeed in life”. 

​

Representative Anderson represents District 110 in the Mississippi Legislature covering Moss Point and Pascagoula. When Rep. Anderson won his seat in November of 2013, he became the youngest African American ever elected to Legislature in United States History. Representative Anderson is also the youngest elected to the Mississippi Legislature. MSNBC has designated Rep. Anderson as the “Millennial” leader.

Since his inauguration on his 22nd birthday Representative Anderson has appeared on MSNBC. He has been featured in the NAACP magazine February issue. He was a guest on the Tom Joyner morning show with Roland Martin.  Rep. Anderson appeared in Essence Magazine as a future Presidential Candidate.  Representative Anderson has spoken at several high school and college commencements all across the country; recently Representative Anderson was recognized as a “Young Riser” at the 2015 BET Honors by BET which aired Nationally & Internationally.

He was elected first elected on November 5, 2013, and sworn in on December 6, 2013. After being re-elected by 80% of the electorate in 2015, Representative Anderson is currently serving his second term as District 110 State Representative, which will end in January 2020.  Upon being re-elected to the Mississippi House of Representative’s, his Democratic colleagues elected him to serve in the House Democratic leadership as Caucus Secretary/Treasurer.

Representative Anderson current serves on the Advisory Board for "Let America Vote" which is an organization dedicated to winning the public debate over voter suppression in the United States. He also serves as co-chairman for the Mississippi Future Caucus, a bipartisan caucus for lawmakers under 40.  Most recently, he was honored during the opening session of the United Nations as one of the world's most influential people of African decent under 40.

During his time in the legislative sessions, Rep. Anderson has authored and co-authored legislation centered around increasing minimum wage, full funding for public education, wage equality, criminal justice reform and childcare subsidies. 

​

Representative Anderson ran for the Legislature to inspire his generation that they have the ability to do anything.
